Bonjour! This very handsome spaniel is a french breed which comes from the Picardy region, where they were bred to hunt over many types of terrain in any weather. They are highly prized hunting dogs but can also make good family pets, and although not currently well known in the UK they are gaining popularity.
They have become popular in other parts of Europe as they excel at things such as obedience, agility, flyball, tracking, hunting, pointing, retrieving and they make great family companions. Unlike other field spaniels they are not used to flush out game. They are happy to work on both land and water, whatever the weather and have plenty of energy.
They are very trainable dogs in an experienced trainers hands as they are very eager to please. They generally get along well with other dogs too, so long as they are well socialised at a young age.
Like most spaniels they thrive on human company, and therefore should not be left alone for prolonged periods. They also need careful training as they will not respond well to harsh methods of training as they are quite sensitive in nature, they therefore respond better to positive reinforcement. They are very good around children and can be good with other family pets which they have grown up with. Bear in mind that these dogs were primarily bred for hunting though and due to their high prey drive are likely to chase cats and other small pets if not familiarised while young.
